Let’s Encrypt is a non-profit certificate authority (CA) operated by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). It provides free X.509 certificates for Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption, aiming to make the web more secure and privacy-respecting through widespread HTTPS adoption.

Key aspects of Let’s Encrypt include:

Free Certificates: It offers trusted certificates at no cost to anyone who owns a domain name.
Automation: The process of obtaining, configuring, and renewing certificates is automated, simplifying the setup and maintenance of TLS encryption for websites. Certificates are typically valid for 90 days, with automated renewal possible at any time.
Mission: Its primary goal is to make encrypted connections the default for the entire World Wide Web.
Technology: Let’s Encrypt uses an Apache-licensed Python client called Certbot (formerly letsencrypt) for certificate management on the client side. The server-side implementation, called Boulder, is written in Go and implements the ACME protocol.
